Urban Wonderland

My latest artwork has now been packed and is ready to go down to London! The artwork was created especially for the Guerilla Galleries for their April exhibition titled ‘Urban Life’.

Part of the brief stated: “this show hopes to present an honest look at life, love and survival in an urban environment…”
As my work is mainly inspired by children’s stories and childhood memories, I approached the artwork from this perspective. As all children adapt to their environment and view the world in wonderment I titled the piece ‘Urban Wonderland’. Therefore, it is a nonsensical mix of reality in an urban environment contrasted with child’s play, incorporating characters from stories such as ‘The Gruffalo’ and a magical theme from ‘Harry Potter’ alongside an urban backdrop, including the natural world living in the cities and other issues such as fly tipping.

However, look a little closer into the image and you may find other fun elements to make you smile, so why not take a closer look!

New ArtWork 2014

Here is my latest artwork slightly inspired by this classic 1960’s American children’s book…

‘Where the Wild Things Are’ by Maurice Sendak
I’ve always loved this story and have felt very inspired by it of late! If you are unfamiliar with the story, it follows the adventure of a little boy called Max, who one evening is very naughty after he begins playing in his wolf suit. His mother sends Max to his bed, but his bedroom turns into a forest and a boat appears taking him on a long journey to an island of wild things (it is a fantastic story so have a read if you haven’t already)!

My picture is titled ‘Diverted to Where the Wild Things Are’ and as always I have added my own twist of ghost like creatures looming in the background and also includes traffic cones and a road sign which I particularly love.

What do you think? I hope you like it! ;)
