Part of the
brief stated: “this show hopes to present an honest look at life, love and survival
in an urban environment…”
As my work is
mainly inspired by children’s stories and childhood memories, I approached the
artwork from this perspective. As all children adapt to their environment and
view the world in wonderment I titled the piece ‘Urban Wonderland’. Therefore,
it is a nonsensical mix of reality in an urban environment contrasted with
child’s play, incorporating characters from stories such as ‘The Gruffalo’ and a
magical theme from ‘Harry Potter’ alongside an urban backdrop, including the
natural world living in the cities and other issues such as fly tipping.
