Timmy's Christmas Antics!

Our dog Timmy is a very cheeky chap that keeps the whole family amused for hours on end. He is always making us laugh and even cheers us up when we are painting, by trying to become a ‘Zebra’! This instance led us to lots of embarrassing walks on the beach with many people staring at us.

Now anyone could see when looking at this year’s Christmas card that I created of my Timmy that he was a little bit on the heavy side! The image was from last Christmas (2011) in his reindeer outfit (that he loves) but it was apparent that in 2012 – Timmy would need to go on a doggy diet!

So our poor little chap went on the diet dog food and lost a little weight. His arthritis was getting a little better so he could walk a bit further and so it was all looking very good. The vet found him to have water retention and so that shed off some weight too but there it ended. We were told he would just have to go on longer walks!

Until… we noticed food go missing that no one claimed to have eaten! And finally we found an open box of ‘After Eight Mints’ open from under the Christmas tree with bits of wrapping every-where! I wonder who that could have been.  He is now under supervision and waiting his trial for the ‘thieving of Chocolates, Sausage Rolls and other pastries, meat and the worst crime of all - Children’s sweets ‘!

But we all still love our dog Timmy!

Radio Interview on BBC Radio Humberside

I have had a fantastic afternoon (Tuesday 18th December) meeting the BBC Radio Humberside presenter Phil White. He was live from 2pm – 5pm at the Bridlington Spa Royal Hall and he asked if I would join him on his show to talk about my art work, workshops and the forthcoming year.
He also interviewed others from the area along with the cast of this year’s Spa Christmas Pantomime ‘Beauty and the Beast’.

If you missed the live broadcast and want to listen here is the link to the BBC iplayer.

The Dickensian Festival

The weather was great today for the Dickensian Festival in Bridlington’s Old Town and lots of visitors came out to view the lovely goods the stalls had to offer.

I was at the Alex May Gallery along with Fellow artists Joy Johnson, Carlo Verda, Maybelle Rose and Lauren Cherice on hand to meet and discuss our work with the public. I had a fantastic time as everyone seemed to have the festive feeling and it was really infectious. Before I knew it I was even singing a Christmas song - which wasn’t good for people’s ears!
I would like to thank everyone who came to visit us today. The ‘Season’s Greetings’ Exhibition is still on until Thursday 31st January. I will also be available to speak to again at the Alex May Gallery at the Bridlington Old Town’s late night openings which are on Thursday’s (13th & 20th December) 5pm -7.30pm until Christmas.

I hope to see you there!

Christmas Gift Fair in aid of 'The Daisy Appeal'

On Wednesday 28th November from 4pm-8pm, I will be joining other stalls at the ‘Travellers Rest – Christmas Gift Fair’ in Long Riston!

I am very excited to be part of the festivities especially as it is in aid of a good cause. The event is in support of ‘The Daisy Appeal’ a local charity which helps to improve treatment and research opportunities in common diseases such as cancer and heart disease. They have already raised the money to build a Medical Research Centre at Castle Hill Hospital and now want to raise £6.6 million to purchase PET-CT Scanning equipment. The purchase of this equipment will mean that they will be the first facility in Yorkshire to offer advanced imaging facilities linked to an on-going scientific research programme.

I have been busy preparing special Christmas gifts that have not even been sold or shown anywhere to make them extra special for the event! I will also be donating a lovely prize for the raffle to help the good cause!

I am very much looking forward to the festive food and mulled wine it all sounds very tempting!

For Two Weeks Only

Well it took 8 gruelling hours in total to hang the ‘Dirty Pretty Things’ exhibition at the Bridlington Spa but it is up now and on display for all to see!

Here is a little peek into our efforts!

However, it is only on display for two weeks so if you want to view it - view it NOW or miss out on some first class art work by Rhea Sherriff Hammond and I!

Now in Stock!

Over the last couple of weeks I have been a very busy girl! Not only have I been gearing up for the long awaited ‘Dirty Pretty Things’ exhibition with fellow artist Rhea Sherriff-Hammond, I have also been visiting the most beautiful shops and galleries stocking them with my new products.

The first of the venues to stock my Eco bags was the lovely Alex May Gallery in Bridlington (pictured above). If you have been reading my blog you will know that I recently took part in a group exhibition there which is still on-going exhibiting fantastic works of art and gifts produced by local artists and makers such as Lauren Cherice Designs, Joy Johnson, Kate Jordan, Carlo Verda, Keith Bruce and my good self of course!

The Eco bags have also found their way to the wonderful Back o’ the Shop Gallery in Terrington and will feature in their new Christmas exhibition ‘Santa’s Skint’ running from the 3rd November till 24th December! I’m sure there will be lots of other great gift ideas there so make sure it is one of your Christmas shopping venues!

I have also begun to stock two new shops with both my Christmas cards and Eco Bags! One of which is called ‘Ruby’s’ Gifts and Interiors in Driffield and another shop called Homebird House in Scarborough (pictured below).

Homebird House at 4 St Helen’s Square Scarborough is a new business and has only been open for seven weeks but it is already established and well worth a look. The whole shop is like a little wonderland paradise with all sorts of visual treats and goodies that would be ideal for any one’s home or as a little gift. I love it and I am very proud to be selling my products there!

And finally all my products can be purchased from my website: www.leannebroadbent.com and at the moment all Limited Edition Prints are exempt from Postage and Packaging! So go on it would make a lovely Christmas Gift!

Dirty Pretty Things

In two weeks’ time (Monday 12th November) I will be hanging an exciting exhibition alongside my friend and fellow artist Rhea Sherriff-Hammond. Rhea and I first met at University and got on straight away like we had been friends all along!

We had our first joint exhibition together last year at The West Wing Gallery at Sewerby Hall and Gardens titled ‘Malice in Wonderland’ and as it was such a huge success we decided to unite once more to bring you ‘Dirty Pretty Things’!

This exhibition will take place at the Gallery@Spa at Bridlington's Spa Royal Hall from Monday 12th November - Friday 23rd November.

I am looking forward to the big unveiling of bubble wrap to see what new work Rhea has produced. I too have been busy since our last exhibition and will be exhibiting both new art works and new products will be on sale.

These will include my new Eco Bags and Christmas Cards Timmy and Hannah!

New Eco Cotton Bags on Sale!

I am so excited I can hardly contain myself! It has been feeling a little bit like Christmas today because I have been waiting for a parcel to be delivered.

The parcel has arrived! Mmm I wonder what is inside this box!

Ok no more teasing. These are my new Eco Screen Printed Cotton bags going on sale via my website and a few other outlets that need to be confirmed!

The bag displays one of my original images from ‘It’s not just another wardrobe’ and is made with eco-friendly inks on cotton.

Here are a few more pictures from this afternoon.

I hope you love these as much as I do!

My first day at Burton Agnes Hall!

I’ve had a lovely first day on my residency at Burton Agnes Hall!

I set up my pictures in the Summer House.

I got lost in the maze going in and out of it!

As the weather was so nice I set up outside with my sketch book and was very happy until the rain came down!

I finished off my day sketching in the house and met some lovely people.

There will be more pictures to follow soon!

News about my next event!

Thank you to everyone who came to visit us at the Alex May Gallery over the last week!

We all had a wonderful time and we are hoping to exhibit again together soon. In the meantime the gallery is going to be open more frequently – so watch out for that!

On a different note I am now preparing to do a residency beginning next week (from 1st October- 14th October) at BurtonAgnes Hall and there I will be show casing some of my architectural studies from the local area.

I was also pleased to find out that there is also a lovely article in today’s East Riding Mail about me and my residency.
I hope to see you there!

Photos from 'More than just a pretty face' exhibition

Here is just a sneaky peak of some pictures on display at the ‘More than just a pretty face’ exhibition (Back o’the Shop Gallery – Terrington).

I am really excited to be part of this exhibition as it asks the viewer to look beyond the figure or portrait and think more deeply about the concept and narrative.

Hopefully this will tantalise your taste buds and make you want to view more!
The exhibition runs until Saturday 27th October.
